Hemmings Project Atremis

1997 Ford F-250 Super Duty

The Ultimate Overlanding Vehicle

“Roads? Where we’re going we don’t need roads.” Doc Brown couldn’t have said it better in the 1980’s film classic Back to the Future. Introducing Project Atemis, a 1997 Ford F-250 Super Duty OBS (Original Body Style) pickup, converted into the ultimate rig for Overlanding. It the latest creation of the award-winning KTL Restorations team. KTL is a nationally recognized shop known for their concours level restorations and radical custom builds.

Overlanding – the Best of Off-Road Adventuring

Overlanding is a fast growing trend where vehicles are used to explore terrain where roads, trails, or any other developed facilities are scarce at best (if present at all). Enthusiasts in this hobby are best served by making sure that all supplies for their trip are packed before leaving the comfort of their homes. This includes shelter, food, water, and all other supplies necessary to survive in an otherwise un-inhabited environment.

The Build

KTL took a bone-stock 1997 Ford F-250 Super Duty and completely disassembled, and rebuilt it from the ground up. Project Artemis is powered by Ford Performance’s all new Godzilla Crate Engine, and the first to be powered by the Ford Control Pack. This 7.3L V-8 power plant features aluminum heads and is rated at 430 hp with 475 lb-ft of torque. It’s backed by an electronically controlled 10R140 automatic transmission.

But this build goes far beyond just an engine swap. There were more modifications made to this show-stopping truck than we can count, and each time you look at it, you see something new! Here are just a few of the modifications:

  • Custom Suspension System
  • Custom Made Radiator by DeWitts Radiators
  • All New Custom Interior With a Newly Released Leather by Moore & Giles
  • Rack System by Leitner Designs, Complete with Rack, Storage Boxes, and Coolers
  • Off-Road Lighting System from KC HiLiTES
  • A Full Assortment of Overlanding Gear Including: Built-In Shelter, Power Supplies, Refrigeration, Extra Fuel Storage, and More
  • Custom Paint from Glasurit, a BASF Brand

You can read more about this build, including the inspiration for the build, in this article from Hemmings Motor News.

The KTL team would like to thank all of our many sponsors and partners who contributed to bringing this build to fruition. For the complete list of build sponsors and partners, keep scrolling.
